What does it mean to give thanks with all your heart?
“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” Psalms 9:1 NIV
When I sat to write this devotional I had no idea what I was going to say then like a wave building in the distance my heart began to swell with thanksgiving to God. As I reflected on a scripture, Psalms 9:1 perfectly described the feeling. David in this Psalm vowed to give God thanks with his whole heart. As I reflect on the sheer weight of that commitment I look at my own life to see if I give God thanks with my whole heart.
Your heart or desire often leads your life and helps you to make decisions. Think about your daily decisions from what you eat, to what you wear, to who you choose to engage with, it’s all connected to your heart.
Does your gratitude to God come from a deep seeded need to show him the gratitude he deserves? Not just for forgiving your sins or dying on the cross all those years ago but for the day to day , moment to moment, second to second; mercies, grace and kindness He shows you every day.
Today as we start this ‘12 days of Thanksgiving’ I want you to commit to showing God thanks in tangible ways. For me that is going to look like doing kind things for my fellow neighbors to show forth the love of God to the world. It’s going to also look like being intentional about listening for his voice every day to be obedient to what it is that he wants me to do. These seem like simple acts but so often we neglect the small things while focusing on other concerns.
We want to be your gratitude accountability partner let us know what you’ll be doing for the next 12 days to show your gratitude to Christ.
